CHEM1914: Sustainability: Promoting Change in Science, Engineering, and our Daily Lives

2 CreditsFreshman SeminarIntellectual Community

Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in our daily lives from the food we eat and the plastic products we use every day to turning the lights off when not in use! This seminar will focus on giving students a broad overview of what sustainability means in the field of science and engineering. We will survey the United Nations Sustainable Development goals and touch on topics in renewable energy, farming and food, environment and water, along with sustainable technologies and innovation. Special attention will be placed on green chemistry along with learning about the plastics problem, and understanding how researchers are creating sustainable technologies with recyclability/degradability.
