CI 5616 is a course for language teacher candidates (ESL, World Language) enrolled in licensure programs. It provides research-based theory, processes, and strategies to enhance reading instruction in a multilingual context. The course will address emergent multilingualism in elementary settings, as well as teaching reading to students with limited or interrupted formal education (SLIFE). This course meets PELSB standards that require new licensees to understand comprehensive, scientifically-based reading instruction (see statute 122A.06, Subdivision 4).
