CLA3301: Dare to Care: Laying the Liberal Arts Foundation for a Life of Service in Healthcare

Human beings are more than biological systems. Therefore, one cannot be a fully empathic, emotionally intelligent, culturally competent, and service-oriented healthcare practitioner without exposure to critical concepts in philosophy, history, literature, geography, anthropology, economics, etc. This course provides students foundational knowledge and context for connecting their Liberal Arts education to their individual journey toward applying to health professional school and ultimately becoming 21st century healthcare practitioners. It also provides some reflective consideration on disparities in healthcare, implicit bias in healthcare, and what to expect in a professional school education. This course meets the CLA requirement for the Second-Year Experience and can be taken in place of CLA 3002.
