FSOS3429: Counseling Skills Practicum I

3 Credits

This course is designed to provide students with the listening skills necessary to establish a helping relationship and to promote the personal growth and development of people they will see in their future work. Students will also focus on learning more about their own strengths and motivations to pursue helping relationships. Through focusing on atheoretical counseling micro-skills, students will learn how to communicate empathy and connect with future clients. Lectures, small group work, role plays, and reading will all be pathways to meeting these goals. While these skills are directed towards students seeking a career in helping, they are skills that are beneficial in all personal and professional relationships.
