FSOS4109W: Family Theories

3 CreditsWriting Intensive

How have family theories evolved? What impact do theories have on our understanding of family dynamics today? What is a theory, anyway? In FSOS 4109W, we'll consider foundational and contemporary family theories and frameworks and examine their historical origins and implications. What are the basic theoretical assumptions that underpin these theories? How do primary terms and concepts shape our research and application in the field of family science? We'll explore the theoretical orientations that have guided?and continue to guide?family studies. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to develop and hone your academic writing skills. How can you effectively communicate complex theories? What feedback can you provide and receive to deepen your understanding of these theories? Together, we will navigate these questions and make connections between theory and practice in family studies.
