INET4707: Introduction to Databases

4 Credits

This course prepares students to make decisions regarding the database technologies that should be included in an organization’s information technology portfolio. To that end, it covers: 1. The theory and concepts of relational and NoSQL databases, the two predominant families of database technology. 2. How to represent data in technology-independent, relational, and NoSQL data models. 3. How to query relational and NoSQL databases, including hands-on experience with relational and NoSQL databases. 4. How to determine which categories of relational and/or NoSQL databases are appropriate for a given application. 5. Research into current and emerging database technology trends. Recommended prerequisite: INET 4001.
