This course is about writing feature stories for magazines. You'll learn how that enterprise differs from newspaper writing. You'll also learn about the various types of magazines that exist as well as what constitutes a magazine in this digital age. We will focus on niche - on the importance of writing for the magazine's audience. You'll learn how to sell your work to different markets and platforms. You'll also discover, if you don't already know it, that the best magazine writing is rooted in solid reporting. You'll be doing more interviewing, fact-finding, and field work than you may have imagined, all of which will improve your writing.prereq: [JOUR 3004 or 3004H], JOUR 3101, Jour major
