PE1016: Posture and Individual Exercise

This Physical Education course introduces students to the principles of good posture, alignment, and mindful movement through a variety of exercise modalities. Students will explore the fitness concepts and mental wellness benefits behind yoga, Pilates, resistance training, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Emphasis is placed on developing body awareness, flexibility, cardiovascular health, strength, mobility, and stress management. Coursework includes personal fitness assessments, goal setting, and the development of lifelong healthy habits. Approximately 25% of class time is dedicated to lecture-based learning, while 75% involves hands-on physical practice. Students will gain a foundational understanding of exercise safety, technique, and the cultural context of physical activity, while also building essential life skills such as discipline, self-awareness, and resilience. As part of the broader Physical Education curriculum, this course fosters not only physical development but also personal growth and community development. Students will engage in activities that promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and self-discipline, supporting a lifelong commitment to health and fitness. Requirements: Proper exercise attire and a yoga mat are mandatory for participation. Note: No prior experience is necessary. This course is open to all students eager to learn, grow, and move forward. PE classes involve a moderate to high level of energy expenditure and are considered moderately to highly intense. It is recommended that students be aware of their health status and any limitations that may affect their ability to participate safely in the physical activities involved in the course. If you have any questions about your health status, consult a physician for advice. You should also let the instructor know of any pre-existing health conditions before the first day of class and before participating in physical activities.
