PE1044: Self-Defense

This course equips students with essential physical, psychological, and de-escalation skills to respond effectively in crisis and pre-crisis situations. Emphasizing prevention and personal empowerment, students will learn to avoid, defuse, and?if necessary?physically react to threats such as assault, harassment, and other dangerous encounters. Course content includes: Physical techniques: Basic striking, kicking, blocking, and release methods. Psychological strategies: Situational analysis, assertive communication, and confident body language. De-escalation skills: Distance awareness, instinct recognition, and verbal negotiation. Students will apply these skills through controlled partner drills simulating a variety of real-world scenarios, including defense against single and multiple attackers, ground and car-based assaults, and threats involving weapons. PE classes involve a moderate to high level of energy expenditure and are considered moderately to highly intense. It is recommended that students be aware of their health status and any limitations that may affect their ability to participate safely in the physical activities involved in the course. If you have any questions about your health status, consult a physician for advice. You should also let the instructor know of any pre-existing health conditions before the first day of class and before participating in physical activities.
