PE1048: Bowling

This course provides students with an introduction to the sport of bowling, combining classroom instruction with hands-on practice to develop both knowledge and skill. Students will learn the fundamentals of bowling technique, including stance, approach, grip, arm swing, release, and spare shooting, while also exploring basic lane play strategies. In addition to physical skills, the course covers the history and evolution of bowling, rules and scoring systems, as well as the etiquette and structure of various play formats, including open bowling, league competition, and tournaments. Instruction is delivered through video analysis, on-lane demonstrations, and guided practice sessions. Students will be assessed on their understanding of key concepts and their ability to demonstrate proper technique and measurable improvement. By the end of the course, students will have developed a solid foundation in bowling and the confidence to participate in recreational or competitive settings. As part of the broader Physical Education curriculum, this course supports the development of physical skills, personal growth, and community building. Students will engage in activities that promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and self-discipline, encouraging a lifelong commitment to physical activity. Approximately 25% of class time is dedicated to lecture-based learning, while 75% involves active skill development and practice. The course is open to all students and is designed for beginners?no prior experience is required. PE classes involve a moderate to high level of energy expenditure and are considered moderately to highly intense. It is recommended that students be aware of their health status and any limitations that may affect their ability to participate safely in the physical activities involved in the course. If you have any questions about your health status, consult a physician for advice. You should also let the instructor know of any pre-existing health conditions before the first day of class and before participating in physical activities.
