This course introduces students to the fundamentals of cricket, one of the most widely played and culturally significant sports globally. Designed for beginners, the course combines classroom instruction with hands-on practice to build a strong foundation in the rules, techniques, and strategies of the game. Students will explore the history and evolution of cricket, learn essential terminology, and gain an understanding of fielding positions and their roles. Instruction covers core skills, including batting techniques and strategies, bowling styles (fast, spin, and swing bowling), and fielding techniques such as catching, throwing, and ground fielding. Students will also learn about scoring, umpiring, and game tactics through modified games and scrimmages that simulate real match scenarios. Throughout the course, students will participate in drills and practice sessions to develop their skills and apply their knowledge in game-like situations. By the end of the semester, students will be able to participate confidently in recreational cricket matches and have gained an appreciation for the sport?s global impact, as well as its emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship, and physical fitness. As part of the broader Physical Education curriculum, this course supports the development of physical skills, personal growth, and community building. Students will engage in activities that promote self-discipline, collaboration, and a lifelong commitment to physical activity. Approximately 25% of class time is dedicated to lecture-based learning, while 75% involves hands-on physical skill development and practice. The course is open to all students and requires no prior experience. PE classes involve a moderate to high level of energy expenditure and are considered moderately to highly intense. It is recommended that students be aware of their health status and any limitations that may affect their ability to participate safely in the physical activities involved in the course. You should also let the instructor know of any pre-existing health conditions before the first day of class and before participating in physical activities.
