This course will guide students through learning experiences rooted in the daily work of a pharmacist in order to build knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for patient-centered, team-based care. Each Area of Science is represented with emphasis on developing and integrating knowledge to evaluate the scientific literature, explain drug action, solve therapeutic problems, and advance population health and systems of care. This module establishes pharmaceutical care as the basis for the patient care responsibility of a pharmacist, relates core concepts from each area of science to the assessment process utilized by the pharmacist and begins to establish the professional identity of a pharmacist. Students will develop knowledge and skills necessary to accomplish pharmacist tasks involving: community pharmacy, nutrition, conception care, pain/tension headaches, and pain from minor injuries.
