PHIL4615: Minds, Bodies, and Machines

3 Credits

This course explores key issues in the philosophy of mind. Students will examine fundamental questions about the nature of the mind, its relationship to the body, and the challenges of mental causation. Topics include mental states, consciousness, and free will, with critical engagement with contemporary theories like behaviorism, functionalism and physicalism. Through readings, discussions, and writing, we will assess whether mental phenomena can be fully explained within a physicalist framework and address broader implications for personal identity and agency.
