This course provides a comprehensive overview of the regulatory, administrative, and professional frameworks essential for navigating the modern U.S. healthcare landscape. Students examine the business of physical therapist practice through the lenses of organizational structure, financial management, marketing, risk management, quality improvement, and the integration of health informatics, while gaining practical expertise in complex billing and coding across diverse payer sources. This course emphasizes the legalities of the profession, including state licensing, the PT Compact, and the ethical supervision of support personnel. By comparing practice management across the continuum of care?from acute settings to private business models?students develop the skills necessary to promote evidence-informed decision-making in team-based care, alongside a focus on professional longevity through leadership pathways, career trajectories, and wellbeing.
