PUBH6637: Monitoring and Evaluation of Maternal and Child Health Programs

This course introduces students to the concepts and methods for conducting monitoring and evaluation of Maternal and Child Health Programs. It covers concepts and procedures required to plan and conduct program evaluation in applied health settings with an emphasis on utilization-focused evaluation strategies and practical issues for the evaluation of MCH programs. The course also aims to help students appreciate the role of monitoring and evaluation in program planning, design, and management. While the emphasis is in domestic programs, the concepts and procedures of monitoring and evaluation are applicable to international settings. The course has a strong focus on program and services for Title V populations. The course covers frameworks emphasized in MCH (life course perspective, socioecological models, the social determinants of health MCH Pyramid of Services), monitoring, evaluation design, indicators including Title V outcome, and performance measures and implementation science.
