PUBH6751: Principles of Management in Health Services Organizations

2 Credits

Understanding of and improvement in the competencies of managers in organizations, particularly as applied to health services and public health organizations. Through self-examination and case studies, students develop competencies in team building, strategic planning, collaboration, and problem-solving, along with strategies for building a culture of psychological safety that promotes risk-taking and creativity. This course is available in two formats: in-person and online. Residential students are strongly encouraged to enroll in the in-person section, which emphasizes practicing practical management skills within simulated health and public health organizations. The online section provides flexibility for working students. Focusing on management competencies through a public health lens. Discussions and assignments incorporate as context essential public health values, including social justice, evidence-based decision-making, community self-determination, and collaboration.
