BIOL1931: Ecology of and for the Twin Cities

In this class we will explore the ecology and ecosystems of the Twin Cities, MN. We will utilize readings from textbooks and the primary literature to explore concepts such as park resources and existing biodiversity in the twin cities, urban environmental stress for living organisms, basic scientific methods to examine urban environmental challenges, and unequal distribution of parks and natural spaces throughout the Twin Cities. Students will be expected to participate in and lead critical discussions of special topics in the primary literature. We will visit many sites around the Twin Cities, collect data together, and do basic statistics together as we explore the natural environment around us.
