This course explores financial regulation through an examination of major bank failures in the US, Ireland, and Europe. We consider the relevant regulatory context and cultural factors in the jurisdictions at issue and explore the ongoing efforts to improve regulation and internal bank cultures. Co-located at the law schools at UCD and at the University of Minnesota, this module draws on faculty at both institutions, representatives from regulatory agencies, and practitioners to provide a thematic analysis of the contemporary regulatory challenges in the field of financial regulation. The main assignment is a 5000-word paper; there will also be participatory class assignments. This class satisfies the upper-class writing requirement.
